June 2009
First and foremost, I want to remind everyone that the picnic is this Saturday, June 6, 2009 starting at 11:00am and going until at least 5:00pm at the Pennegrove Park, in (you guessed it) Pennegrove.
I have spoken to many members who went to the Bear River outing, and aside from a few minor glitches, it was a really good time for all attending. The turn-out was reported to be 55 persons at one time or another. It looks like Ben was absolutely correct in renting the WHOLE campground and not just half. Thanks for the foresight Ben, and for putting up with our bitching.. Remember also that club dues are coming up in July; family $35.00 and single $30.00. On this note I’m told that one, maybe two people are tired of “hearing me whine about money”, but since the at the meetings I was asked to start giving a monetary report, I will continue giving the majority that for which it asks.
Picnic information: Please bring a dish, or drinks, to share. We will provide country ribs, London broil, and chicken. We also provide the “place settings”, plates, napkins, utensils, etc. The club provides most of the drinks, which include sodas, juice, water, and milk. Some condiments like mayo, mustard, pickles. We’re all going to eat at the same time this year; no more sitting at the serving bowls and eating before anyone else gets a taste. But then, we’ll start cooking earlier too, so people aren’t so hungry that they need to chow down on the first thing they see.
Richard will be hosting the dessert and snack cook-off. Judges will be picked from volunteers, unless no one volunteers and them they’ll be appointed. We have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. We will have bats and softballs for a pickup game, and burlap sacks for a sack race. If you have games you want to try, bring them. But remember, it’s a FAMILY event, so save the racier games for another time! There will also be the Metal Detecting Contest, so bring your detector. And off course, we’ll be having our monthly nugget raffle.
So please, bring family and friends to this annual event. We need you there. We’ll have a very informal meeting at the picnic; it won’t be anything long and drawn out. We’ll save that for the July 15th meeting at the Santa Rosa Vet’s Building. And I will be sending another newsletter before that meeting, with more news for those not able to attend the Bear outing or the May or June meetings.
I hope to see you at the picnic.
As always,
Kathe Close for the Santa Rosa Gold Diggers
